CBTL Youth Development Program

Would you like to improve your cycling in a safe, fun, friendly, social and supportive environment? The velodrome is a terrific place to learn skills, develop technique and speed in a closed, controlled environment away from the dangers of potholes, traffic and other hazards. This weekly, coached program is focused on young athletes aged 13 to 19 (under 13 at coach’s discretion). The training is designed to fit in with age appropriate athletic development as described in the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) program.

In addition to all the fitness benefits, track cycling will directly improve bike handling, pedal action, sprinting and road racing skills. The track is a great place to train for other cycling disciplines and cross-train for many other sports including hockey, skiing, ringette, swimming and running. The program includes the use of the CBTL’s rental track bikes.

Starting Date: Monday April 24th for Advanced/Experienced youth riders and Tuesday, April 25th for Beginner/Development youth riders.  Sessions start at 5:00 PM. The first two sessions will include an introduction to the track (same as our Learn to Ride the Track Clinic).

Times: Mondays for Advanced/Experienced youths, and Tuesdays for Beginner/Development youths riders, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Last Session: Monday August 28th for the Advanced/Experienced youths, and Tuesday August 29th for the Beginner/Development youths.

Other Times: Once participants are comfortable on the track, they are welcome to come out during regularly scheduled open track time on their own, or even join the Thursday night race league.

Cost: $100.00. Please note that the CBTL is heavily subsidizing the program and we hope you can take advantage of the resources we have available. Registration for this and other programs are on zone4.ca. Please note: this program has is limit of 30 athletes.

Please email one of the Exec Members or our Track Manager with any additional questions you may have and we will try to address them.  You can find the emails under contact us.

Thank you for your interest in track cycling and the Calgary Bicycle Track League. We look forward to seeing you at the track this season.
